Prince Charles in development vow to Gambia

While in Gambia for a three-day visit Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also plan to visit a holiday resort in an effort to revive Gambia's tourism sector.

The Prince of Wales on Thursday (Nov 1) called on The Gambia to work with Britain to promote democracy almost two years after the small West African nation emerged from decades of authoritarian rule.

The statement said many specially invited guests who shared the same birthday as Prince Charles, would attend the event.

Additionally, the pair will visit the Christiansborg Castle, a once British-owned slave fort, which served as a seat of Ghana's government for decades. And of course, Camilla didn't disappoint with her first outfit choice, just like Meghan - opting to wear a beautifully tailored dress coat and pants for their first engagements, which included an official welcome and a traditional cultural performance at the Coco Ocean Hotel.

Then in 1977, the Queen's first born, Prince Charles, visited the country for the first time. "It's a relationship that we value", Nana Akufo-Addo said.

The royals head next to Nigeria.

The Prince of Wales and his wife have started their tour of West Africa in Gambia, which was re-admitted into the Commonwealth in February this year.

Prince Charles would later meet with key players in the cocoa industry to discuss ways to sustain the country's mostprofitable resources and local policymakers to discuss renovations and reuse of the historic landmark, as part of efforts to redevelop the Accra beach front.

As Britain prepares to leave the European Union in 2019, the prince aims to "celebrate the UK's dynamic, forward-looking partnerships" with Commonwealth nations, a statement announcing the African tour had said.
