Khashoggi's fiancee asks Trump to press Saudis for his body

A demonstrator holds a poster with a picture of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi outside the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul, Turkey October 25, 2018.

An unnamed official also told the Washington Post "biological evidence" in the consulate's garden suggested that because of acid "Khashoggi's body was not in need of burying".

Yasin Aktay, a ruling party adviser to Erdogan, told The Associated Press on Friday that "there can be no other formula" to explain why Khashoggi's remains have not been found a month after he was killed.

UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt also said it was an appalling act, adding that it had "possibly" given the United States and the UK a chance to put new pressure on Saudi Arabia over other issues.

The US also fears regional stability could deteriorate if Saudi Arabia's royal court is thrust into a power struggle, a rationale for maintaining support for Mohammed, despite ongoing concerns about his lack of experience and impulsive decisions.

"They aimed to ensure no sign of the body was left".

The Nov. 2 date was chosen to remember two French journalists who were killed in Mali on this day in 2013 - two of the more than 1,000 journalists whom the United Nations says have died since 2006.

Killing an innocent person is one crime, the treatment and extent of what was done to the body is another crime and dishonour.

Erdogan wrote: "As responsible members of the worldwide community, we must reveal the identities of the puppet masters behind Khashoggi's killing and discover those in whom Saudi officials -still trying to cover up the murder - have placed their trust".

"We have requested information from Saudi officials regarding the whereabouts of Jamal Khashoggi's body and the identity of the supposed local collaborator".

Writing in The Washington Post on Friday, Cengiz said the United States should be leading the worldwide community in seeking justice for Khashoggi.

Saudi officials have offered varying explanations for how and why Khashoggi was killed on October 2.

Within days of the mysterious disappearance Turkish officials had made anonymous leaks to the media about the killing of the journalist, a harsh critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Speaking at a journalism awards ceremony Thursday, Fred Ryan, Publisher and CEO of the Washington Post which Khashoggi wrote for, urged the Trump administration to take a tougher line.

Details of the murder of The Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi continue to get grimmer.

Commenting on al-Mujeb's visit to Turkey, Saudi daily Okaz ran the headline, "Attorney general concludes 72-hour visit by meeting with [Turkish] intelligence and inviting Turkish counterpart [to visit Saudi Arabia]".

As Saudi Arabia began providing a shifting explanation of events in the middle of last month, Trump responded with disappointment, saying he was not satisfied and that a month was too long for Saudi investigators to piece together what happened.
