Apple launches iPhone Xs, Xs Max in Nigeria

Apple sold more than 46.8 million iPhone handsets in the last three months.

In the year-ago quarter (Q4 2017), Apple earned $52.58 billion in revenue. Some talking heads will say that this is because Apple's growth is slowing, but it seems that the company doesn't think unit sales are the best way to look at financial results. That's on the high-end of investor's expectations but flat compared to the 46 million Apple sold in the same quarter previous year. Customer satisfaction for the Apple Watch, he said, was also high, adding that the wearable is among the ways the company can make breakthroughs into the health industry.

The iPhone maker's stock is up more than 25 percent for the year, helped by purchases by Warren Buffett and a $100 billion share buy-back program. The sales of iPhone in Q4 2018 failed to meet the analysts' expectations but generated enough of revenue to refrain critics from being so vocal.

Despite beating on quarterly earnings and revenue, Apple ($AAPL) disappointed investors on Thursday with weaker-than-anticipated guidance for the ever-important holiday quarter, and iPhone unit sales that just missed the mark, notching nearly zero growth from a year ago.

But one problem Apple investors will face is not knowing what the margin mix is within the services business.

Apple investors have been increasingly focused on growth in the company's services business as growth in the global market for smartphones levels off in terms of unit sales. The iPad unit sales dropped from 10.3 million of last year to 9.6 million for the last quarter of the financial year this year.

The latest report offers some positive news for Apple in growing its services such as streaming music and Apple Pay, allowing the company to diversify its revenue stream in a saturated smartphone market.

Apple shares tumbled Friday a day after quarterly results showing strong profits but weaker-than-anticipated iPhone sales and a disappointing outlook for the key holiday period. But perhaps what shocked Apple watchers most was the company's decision to, beginning next quarter, withhold the number of iPhones, iPads, and Macs it sold.

The company's CFO Luca Maestri said Thursday that the company would stop reporting these kinds of unit sales in the future. Apple has responded by promoting software and services across its devices and raising prices on new gadgets.

However, revenue from iPhone sales reached $37.19 billion, a 29 percent gain from last year's sales of $28.85 billion.

The refurb iPhone 8 with 64GB of storage can be yours for $499, which is $100 less than its regular price.
