A half million gather in London to demand vote on Brexit deal

Organisers claim more than 500,000 anti-Brexit campaigners have joined a central London protest calling for a fresh referendum.

Among today's protesters was Rob Yates, from Margate, who has been threatened with eviction after putting an anti Brexit sign in the windows of his Arlington House flat.

A spokesperson for People's Vote said the crowd stretched three-quarters of a mile through the streets and represented the biggest march in London since the 2003 protest against the war in Iraq.

A spokesperson for People's Vote said in a statement: "We are demanding our democratic voice be heard on Brexit".

May has repeatedly ruled out holding a second referendum, saying members of parliament will get to vote on whether to accept any final deal.

Whether you voted leave or remain, nobody voted to make this country worse off, to harm jobs, to damage the NHS, to affect the future of millions of young people, or to make this country more divided.

Celebrity cook Delia Smith, Dragons' Den businesswoman Deborah Meaden and London Mayor Sadiq Khan are among the speakers at the event, which is being compered by broadcasters Richard Bacon and Mariella Frostrup.

Some Islanders were redirected at Trafalgar Square due to the streets being overwhelmed by the sheer numbers who turned out in support of a People's Vote.

"I think it's an excellent decision by the council", said Cllr Bourne.

"Scotland is looking at being taken out of the European Union against her will and I am very, very proud to say that when we know what the Brexit deal looks like, we will support a People's Vote that includes the option to Remain".

Organizers handed out postcards for people to write to their local lawmakers demanding a final say on the Brexit deal, which remains under negotiation between the United Kingdom government, led by Prime Minister Theresa May, and the European Union.

Organisers of the so-called People's Vote March had asked people to dress up their favourite pets in costumes for the march along the scenic route from Hyde Park to Westminster Palace under clear blue skies.

They held placards and banners that were critical of this government's handling of the Brexit negotiations.

At the head of the march were political figures from all three major British political parties.

Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union on March 29, but negotiations have been plagued by disagreements, particularly over the issue of the land border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland border. Having received the mandate of national trust to exit from the EU, London has opened negotiations with Brussels, which turned out to be more hard than expected, so separation conditions are still not defined.

"A majority of the public support a People's Vote and a final say on the Brexit deal". The electorate voted on in 2016 to Leave the European Union with no ifs nor buts.

"It follows on from our campaigning in Nottinghamshire where we've noticed growing concern that Brexit is nothing like the rosy picture painted by the Leave campaign. It is as if we are driving towards a cliff, but won't face up to the reality that the road we have chosen will take us over the edge".
