Coric beats Federer to reach Shanghai Masters final

Three-time Shanghai Open victor Novak Djokovic stormed past German Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-1 to reach the final on Saturday and claim the world number two ranking from Roger Federer.

Novak Djokovic will challenge for a fourth Shanghai Masters title after a comprehensive 6-2 6-1 victory over Alexander Zverev in their semi-final in China.

The Croatian started the match on fire at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, taking the match to Federer with aggressive play.

Coric rallied and found the winning shot with a flicked cross-court forehand to enter his third senior final and his first at Masters level.

A sublime backhand pass followed by a forehand victor sealed a break to love for Zverev in the fifth game of the second set, and he duly wrapped up victory with minimal fuss. But even in defeat, both Federer and Zverev have qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals, featuring the world's top eight players on November 11 in London.

Roger Federer has been the Rolex Shanghai Masters ambassador for a couple of years now promoting the event through advertisement videos, and in a recent interview to CGTN he said that he hopes to compete there for the rest of his career.

The Heat: Brazil Elections Pt1
After da Silva was remanded to prison in April to start serving a 12-year sentence, he continued to run a campaign from his cell. This, however, is no ordinary election, and the three weeks to come are the equivalent of a lifetime in Brazilian politics.

Djokovic's winning run includes victory at the Cincinnati Masters in August, which saw him become the first player to win all nine Masters 1000 tournaments.

Normal order appeared to have been restored when the 20-time Grand Slam champion comfortably claimed the first set against Bautista Agut.

"I just feel like the date of the Davis Cup is really bad, especially for the top players", said Djokovic, echoing the strong sentiments of Zverev a day earlier.

Djokovic, who has already guaranteed to replace Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer at number two in the ranking list, will get more close to the number position if he registered a win in Shanghai.

A win on Sunday would deliver a fourth title for the season to Djokovic, beside Wimbledon and the US Open.
