Here's how to stop the malicious message from bricking your PS4

It seems a malicious message is making the rounds on the PlayStation Network.

Reddit is filled with users who claim to have been affected by the bug, which not just crashes consoles, but bricks them.

Another suggestion involves running a factory reset on your console, though you may want to look at that as a last resort.

The messages contain certain specific characters, which somehow mess with the PS4's software, forcing it be factory reset in order to work again.

For example, a gamer with the username Huntstark1 described a situation they encountered as their team was involved in a match-up of Rainbow Six: Siege.

This week alone, it's estimated about 500,000 Canadians will miss work due to their mental health condition. Generally, this mental illness begins by the age of 14 and most of the cases go undetected and untreated.

You can view the exploit message in the app too and it won't break your phone, but deleting it there still won't protect your console.

You can do that by going to Account Management in your console Settings, heading to the Privacy Settings submenu, and changing Messaging settings to "Friends Only" or "No One", meaning that only your pre-selected friends or no one at all can message you. The message can come at any time to your system and can be sent by anyone, at this point in time the only protection if you haven't had the message sent to you is to make sure your messages are set to private.

Maybe if they were half as good at Rocket League as threatening people...

From a web browser, visit the PSN Privacy setting page, then sign in with your PS4 account credentials.

Of course, if you select "Friends Only" you are still open to attack from anyone in your friends list, but hopefully that doesn't include any idiots. Thankfully, it doesn't impact or delete your data, but it sure is a nuisance.
