Storm Callum may signal start of weekend wash-out

Rain will clear to showers in Northern parts but further heavy rain is likely to spread into Southern and Eastern areas with the ongoing flooding risk.

A Met Office spokesman said: "As Storm Callum passes to the northwest of the United Kingdom, a period of heavy rain will affect South Wales during Friday, with further spells of persistent and heavy rain at times during Saturday".

The main impacts on the United Kingdom will be heavy rain across some western areas on Friday and Saturday.

Both Chirk Castle and Erddig Hall have also been closed throughout today due to the high winds.

Dublin Airport issued a statement on Twitter to say that Storm Callum "is not having a significant impact on operations" and that the airport is "operating as normal this morning".

A Met Office weather warning remains in place until midnight. There are also reports of a fallen tree at the Milltown Road, Belfast.

"There is a deep area of low pressure to the west of Ireland, and it will bring strengthening winds to Ireland as well as western parts of the British Isles".
