A look at what the FBI's Kavanaugh investigation will entail

Two days after the hearing, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to recommend Kavanaugh's nomination along party lines.

The outrage against Flake came after he changed his mind from voting to confirm Kavanaugh to wanting an FBI investigation completed so that he would "feel better".

President Trump gave the order at the request of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Senate Judiciary Committee this afternoon backed Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in a partisan vote, amid an acrimonious debate over sexual assault allegations and uncertainty about his future prospects. Not long after, though, Flake huddled with committee members, including Democrats, and, arriving last to his seat for the committee vote, said, visibly flustered, that he would vote to move Kavanaugh out of committee, but would only participate in a floor vote after a week-long independent FBI investigation in to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's accusation that the nominee sexually assaulted her. "But I have never done this to her or to anyone".

His group's endorsement of Kavanaugh notwithstanding, Carlson urged the Senate to pause the confirmation and have the FBI investigate the claims against Kavanaugh before making a decision.

"Based on your going through that experience, would you recommend that we continue to consult the ABA when it comes to judges?" Sen.

Ford said Judge, a close high school friend of Kavanaugh's, was in the room when he pinned her to a bed, tried to pull off her clothes and clasped his hand over her mouth to stifle her screams. "And I suspect they'll be making some decision soon, whether to take a vote or to do whatever else they want to do".

Trump called Blasey a "very fine woman" following a Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Kavanaugh.

Attorneys for Ford praised the decision to reopen the probe and added, "No artificial limits as to time or scope should be imposed on this investigation".

Brett Kavanaugh is a seriously damaged nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, besieged by allegations of sexual assault and now raising new concerns about his combative demeanor and political objectivity.

"I am terrified", she said, her voice often quivering. "Mark Judge is in hiding instead of under subpoena, and that greatest legal engine has been deliberately disabled in this matter".

It's not clear yet if the agency will focus on the allegations made by women other than Prof Ford, which are also denied by the judge.

Blumenthal also criticised Trump for failing to authorise an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into Blasey Ford's allegations, a move he said "amounts to a cover-up". In his defense, they cited multiple reviews by the ABA's judicial review committee that found him "well qualified" - the big attorney association's highest possible endorsement, meaning Kavanaugh had outstanding legal abilities and outstanding judicial temperament.

It was a reversal from an earlier call with McConnell in which Trump was upset as Ford delivered her emotional testimony, according to the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

"Despite every effort to distort my words and record, I insisted on and got an FBI investigation 27 years ago", Biden said.

A supplemental background check into Ford's allegations could also widen beyond witness interviews to include an investigation into a gap that Ford has admitted to in her story: the date of the party.

A good agent, he said, "would address Kavanaugh's behavior and demeanor and credibility during his high school years".
