Bob Woodward reveals what shocked him most in new Trump book

"Fear: Trump in the White House" caused an uproar last week after Woodward released excerpts from the book, depicting the president as angry, frustrated and paranoid about special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe.

Just a day earlier, The Washington Post published excerpts from an upcoming book by famed Watergate reporter, Bob Woodward.

Trump officials have rushed to distance themselves from the op-ed and from Woodward's book, both of which depict a White House mired in dysfunction, with aides disparaging the Republican president and working to prevent him from making disastrous decisions.

He questioned whether Woodward was "a Dem operative" and said that the "book has already been refuted and discredited by General (Secretary of Defense) James Mattis and General (Chief of Staff) John Kelly".

"These are political statements to protect their jobs - totally understandable", Woodward said.

The few appearances Pence makes in Woodward's book are in scenes with others who presumably provided the details.

'Listen, I think you're subverting the will of the people. That makes it harder for readers to assess just what to believe, and it makes it possible for sources to say one thing anonymously and something else for public consumption. "Many have already come forward to say the quotes by them, like the book, are fiction".

Minutes after Cohn's rebuttal, former White House staff secretary Rob Porter issued a similarly vague statement painting "Fear" as "misleading". "It doesn't mean I was right".

"We have reprinted six times for a total of seven to meet extraordinary demand - that will put one million books in print before we've even gone on sale", a Simon & Schuster spokesperson told CNN.

"I'm not because I know what I did and I'm not anxious about it", he said, again denying that he spoke to his father about his June 2016 Trump Tower sit-down with a Russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton.

"I think you buried the lede", he told Woodward. Dems can't stand losing.

"Doing everything I can", Pence told Cohn, according to the book.

"It was clear that Trump did not understand the way the USA government debt cycle balance sheet worked", Woodward wrote.

Trump talked about raising taxes on the rich repeatedly during his campaign for the presidency, and former Trump adviser Steven Bannon reportedly advocated for a top rate of 44 percent on people who earn more than $5 million a year as he pushed for a more populist version of the tax legislation. "As you know and are living, we are at a pivot point in history", he said.
