Security breach at Lyon Airport, a auto chase on runway, flights grounded

A white vehicle can be seen speeding through a field toward the runway at Lyon's Saint-Exupéry global airport on Monday.

The vehicle then rammed through two glass doors at Saint Expuery's Terminal 1 to drive onto the tarmac.

A dozen police cars and a helicopter were in pursuit and officers arrested him after he leapt from the stolen Mercedes. It showed the auto hitting a bump, going airborne and landing in a cloud of dust at Lyon's worldwide Saint-Exupery airport.

A police source added that the man's motives were not yet known.

The driver first smashed through a security barrier at the Lyon-Bron business airport before changing direction and heading to Lyon's main Saint-Exupery airport, about 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) away.
