Serena Williams opens the US Open in a tutu

Six-time champion Serena Williams made her return to the US Open with a clinical first-round win over Poland's Magda Linette.

They include the US Open, French Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon in London - they even have their own Grand Slam Rule Book!

To put the finishing touches on the outstanding outfit, Williams wore NikeCourt Flare trainers and fishnet compression tights, (advanced compression to prevent blood clots was the true objective of the damn catsuit in the first place, but we digress).

Looks like Serena literally took tennis fashion to new heights.

Caroline Garcia is the defending champion, previous year she enjoyed an unbelievable Asian swing winning both Beijing and Wuhan titles. Already up 2-0 on Linette's serve, Williams lashed a forehand victor to earn a break point, channeled all of her competitive stress into a colossal scream, balled up her fist and pivoted to face the crowd with her face scrunched in ferocious satisfaction.

Telling the crowd that her spirit was broken after not saying goodbye to her daughter Olympia before leaving for her match, Williams displayed little appetite for a fight during an uneven opening set until she finally seized control with a break to go up 4-3.

"My dad always said negative attention is better than no attention, so, as long as the truth lives inside of us and we know what the truth is, that stuff really doesn't bother you, " she said back then.

Nadal defended the French Open powers-that-be in their dress-code crackdown - an effort that prominently cited Serena Williams' skin-tight black outfit at this spring's tournament as inspiration. "I've been wearing trousers in general a lot when I play, so I can keep the blood circulation going".

Verizon to stop imposing data restrictions on firefighters battling California wildfires
The slowdown "had a significant impact on our ability to provide emergency services", Bowden said. "For that, we are truly sorry". Still, Verizon conceded, "we have a practice to remove data speed restrictions when contacted in emergency situations".

Serena Williams's daughter Alexis Olympia is marking a big milestone this weekend - she's turning one! The No. 44-ranked Kanepi and Halep were playing in the very first match only the new Louis Armstrong Stadium, where Kanepi did not face a break point in the first set, and in the second set overpowered the Romanian.

"Once I got settled I started doing what I'm trying to do in practice".

"It's easy to play in, kind of aerodynamic with the one arm free", said Williams.

Today, she will play the world No. 101 Carina Witthoeft, who beat American Carolina Dolehide 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) on Monday.

"It is such a great feeling to be back out here", said Williams.

However, Williams has been applauded for her classy reaction to the outfit ban.

Bumped up to 17th seed from her world ranking of 26 because of her pedigree and record, Williams looked relaxed, fitter than recently and ready to contend.
