Ontario Woman Drives Stolen Vehicle for 2 Weeks Thinking It's a Rental

Coincidentally, the man whose auto was stolen came into the same rental place a few days later and told the manager about how his vehicle had been stolen from the Wal Mart.

After renting the auto, MacKay said the woman drove three or four minutes to the local Walmart where she did some grocery shopping.

The Infiniti's owner reported his SUV stolen and not long after showed up to the same Enterprise to rent a loaner to replace it temporarily.

It's awful to have your vehicle stolen in general but it's even worse when it's stolen by complete accident.

The woman drove the vehicle for two weeks before trying to return it back to Enterprise. The woman then pushed the start button and drove home, said Cornwall police which later received a report about a black Nissan Infinity being stolen from the same parking lot.

The woman got into the unlocked auto, pressed the keyless start button, and drove off - oblivious to the fact it was a completely different vehicle to her own rental.

She then took the auto to a local Walmart, around the same time the man took his black Infiniti to the same vehicle park.

When she exited with her groceries, she loaded them into a vehicle that wasn't her rental.

"Once inside, the woman spoke to the manager and commented about how unkept the inside of the vehicle was and the fact that there was a set of golf clubs in it as well", reads a Facebook post from the Cornwall police explaining the mixup. "The woman was not impressed and handed over the keys". Unfortunately, instead of her vehicle, she had gotten into another black auto. "She drove around and did her daily business in this stolen vehicle for two weeks", as Constable MacKay puts it.

She used the auto for two weeks, going about her daily activities normally; seemingly unaware that the vehicle she was in was not the one she had rented.

"The manager was quite puzzled, as she's turning in keys to an Infiniti, when she rented a Nissan in the first place", MacRae said. They found the stolen Infiniti in their system and were able to sort out what had happened. Police stressed: "Never leave a key fob in a vehicle unless it's being driven".

It took the manager of the branch driving her to the Walmart parking lot where her rental sat for her to see the accidental thief.
