Jeff Sessions says no one wants to split families

Sessions falsely argued that a "loophole" in the law allows parents who cross the border with children to "effectively be given immunity from prosecution".

Brad Parscale tweeted Tuesday that it was "time to fire Sessions".

The zero-tolerance policy, however, hasn't deterred immigrants from trying to enter the country illegally, internal Department of Homeland Security documents obtained by CNN show.

The first clarification that Reverend David Wright makes when people ask him about the complaint waged against Attorney General Jeff Sessions is that the United Methodist Church is not bringing the charges.

It comes as Democratic attorneys general explore the possibility of suing the Trump administration over it's zero-tolerance border policy.

But members of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church said in its resolution that Sessions "weaponized" the passage - and that there's "no interpretation of Scripture, no mandate from Jesus, and no legitimate form of Christian practice" to support "tearing apart families".

Hatch, the longest-serving Senate Republican and a strong supporter of Sessions, called the policy unacceptable. "It's not American", Hatch said Monday. "I think our church people are really concerned about children, that's what I'm hearing", he said.

Led by New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas, 21 top state prosecutors from California to MA sent a letter to Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Tuesday, calling the policy inhumane and draconian.

(Updated) Senegal punish Polish errors to win 2-1 in Group H
The Terranga Lions coached by former captain, Aliou Cisse , produced an impressive performance to defeat Poland 2-1 on Monday . The other aspect of Senegal's win was restricting the vaunted Poland attack to just four shots on target in the entire match.

"I find that offensive", Nielsen said Monday, responding to a reporter's question at the White House. "Anglo-American history", Sessions said, pumping his right fist at the phrase "Anglo-American". The U.S. government separated almost 2,000 children from their parents in April and May as a result of this policy, placing the minors in shelters or with extended family members while their parents are prosecuted.

In their open letter, the former prosecutors wrote that the law "does not require the systematic separation of families under these circumstances". "Fundamentally, we are enforcing the law".

A spokeswoman for the attorney general did not immediately return requests for comment.

The Trump administration has vigorously defended its zero-tolerance policy amid outrage over the family separations.

Sessions didn't describe the conditions in which these children are held while receiving these services but did say separations between children and parents are "temporary and rare".

He echoed that theme in his remarks to the earlier this week, telling the National Sheriffs' Association and said the administration would not retreat.

"But when we ignore our laws at the border we obviously encourage hundreds of thousands of people a year to likewise ignore our laws and illegally enter our country, creating an enormous burden on our law enforcement, our schools, our hospitals, and social programs", Sessions said.
