Former FIFA boss Blatter revels in visit to Putin, World Cup

A Kremlin spokesman confirmed Bolton's visit, but he wouldn't confirm Russian media reports that Putin and Trump would get together in Vienna in July, reports the New York Times.

"I still feel that England, the motherland of football, should have a World Cup when it's the turn of Europe", said Blatter, pointing out that 1966 was a long time ago.

Despite being banned from all football-related activity for another three and a half years, there Blatter was watching Ronaldo light up the Luzhniki Stadium with his fourth goal of the tournament.

"I don't think they are embarrassed I'm here - they knew I was invited by the head of state and the two presidents (Putin and his successor at FIFA, Gianni Infantino) spoke about it", said Blatter. He invited me to his apartment in the Kremlin. "But I'm a guest, and I enjoyed the first match I have watched".

Blatter's trip to Russian Federation marks the first time he has left his homeland in three years, and he met with Putin on Tuesday where he said they engaged in "small talk".

Ruben Loftus Cheek was also brought on to replace Dele Alli and the introduction of these players gave England a lift. In the end, set pieces were enough to get England the three points as both goals came from corners.

Blatter's ban was imposed shortly after the Swiss attorney general's office began criminal proceedings against him on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and misappropriation.

On June 9, Peskov said the Russian and USA presidents discussed the prospects for their meeting in a March phone call and talked about locations, with the Austrian capital, Vienna, as a possibility.

His name wasn't on the official list of VIPs at the Luzhniki Stadium issued by Federation Internationale de Football Association at kick-off, but it was hard to miss Blatter's arrival in Moscow, where he was mobbed by television cameras at the St Regis hotel.

It was a chance to give his image a makeover, just like Blatter enabled Putin to do with Russian Federation by awarding him the World Cup.

"1966 was the last time England held a World Cup, so it is right for them not only to bid, but to organise the World Cup", said Blatter. "But in the past, we have seen that there is political intervention for football".
