Two officers killed by inmate at Kansas City courthouse

Lt. Kelli Bailiff with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office said the deputies were transporting inmates to court for a hearing when they were "overcome".

It's very possible the deputies were attacked with their own guns, Bailiff said.

Authorities say police officers shot and killed three people in less than an hour in Kansas City, Missouri, raising concerns about police tactics.

One Kansas sheriff's deputy was killed and another is in critical condition following a shooting near a courthouse in Kansas City on Friday.

Blair added to the Star that police were not looking for any other suspects and that the incident "is contained".

One of them said he heard gunfire, looked outside, and heard a woman screaming that her husband had been shot. Police Officer Zac Blair says authorities are reviewing surveillance video. Both officers were transported to a local hospital where one remains in critical condition. A male deputy died from his injuries. A van with prisoners left the Wyandotte County Jail entry, on the left, and went into a gated parking lot area on the right of the photo, where the shooting occurred.

The suspect is in the operating room at the same hospital, Zeigler said.
