Microsoft's E3 2018 conference shows that Xbox is (sort of) back

Microsoft had its big E3 showcase today to show off everything Xbox, and it wasn't short on big reveals.

Their presser was chock-full of game announcements and trailers, including a new Forza Horizon, new Halo, new Gears, and updates on Crackdown and other titles. You have games launching first on the Xbox One, heavy investments in the first party licenses they already have, and as I've mentioned previously, buying four very high-profile studios to make future content and a whole new studio. Any future content from the handful of studios Microsoft bought is potentially years away.

That does it for the list of games announced at E3 that are actually exclusive to the Xbox One. They also revealed they were doubling its game development studios by adding five new creative teams to the Microsoft Studios family.

Three years later, Xbox's backward compatibility for older games has become one of the console's defining features.

"We know that exclusive games from Microsoft Studios is what originally turned so many of us into Xbox fans", Spencer said at E3. The industry is headed in an exciting direction, and we see an opportunity to create wonderful new game experiences of the future.

Microsoft has been pretty cagey about what it will be showing off on Sunday, but that Walmart Canada leak from last month suggested that we'll see Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, and a new Splinter Cell. While under its former parent GameFly, the team developed technology to stream PC games to Samsung and LG smart TVs, along with Amazon's Fire TV devices.

"With the ultimate freedom to explore and play over 100 great games, Xbox Game Pass delivers our members an incredible value in gaming".

Away from the game announcement, Microsoft also looped to beef up their existing digital initiatives. In fact, we can't actually verify that Rare is working on this game, but we'd be shocked if that wasn't the case.
