Man bitten by severed rattlesnake head

A man has narrowly avoided death after being bitten by the severed head of rattlesnake in Texas, US.

Jennifer Sutcliffe told TV station KIII that she and her husband were doing yard work at their home near Lake Corpus Christi when he came upon a 4-foot rattlesnake.

Her husband quickly attacked the venomous snake with a shovel, cutting off the head.

Sutcliffe said the first 24 hours were the worst.

The woman shared that doctors informed her that her husband may not pull through. "A normal person who is going to get bit is going to get two to four doses", Sutcliffe said.

However, he is still experiencing weak kidney function more than a week after the incident.

The booster then came back to Earth for a pinpoint landing shortly after that liftoff, but won't do this for the SES-12 mission. The Falcon 9 rocket soared off Launch Complex 40 at 12:45 a.m.; the launch was delayed 16 minutes because of gusty winds.

He was eventually airlifted to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital, Jennifer said.

While it's rare to die after being bitten by a poisonous snake, roughly one to two people die each year in Texas as a result of the venom, according to the state's Parks & Wildlife Department. In 2013, a video of a decapitated copperhead in Alabama went viral. Many ectothermic, or cold-blooded, vertebrae- including species of reptiles and amphibians- share this quality, he said. A California man who was bitten trying to take a selfie with a rattlesnakes got a $153,000 medical bill, with antivenom accounting for $83,000 of it, the Washington Post reported in 2015.

"The bite and envenomation reflex is triggered by some kind of information that comes into the mouth cavity", Beaupré said.

The man was reportedly working in the garden when he spotted the venomous snake and severed its head with a shovel. He's now in stable condition.

He also encouraged people never to suck out the venom as characters in TV shows and movies often do.
