TV academy reviewing Cosby's Emmys, Hall of Fame honour

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has expelled Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski from its membership, the organization announced today.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has finally taken very necessary concrete action and expelled actor Bill Cosby and director Roman Polanski from its membership.

Cosby was found guilty by a Pennsylvania jury last week, on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple University basketball administrator Andrea Constand in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004.

Polanski in 1977 admitted to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in Los Angeles.

Cosby was a member of the Academy, but he never won an Oscar. Only two members had ever before been expelled. The Academy's board met Tuesday night and voted on the men's status in accordance with the institution's standards of conduct. Repeated Hollywood predator Harvey Weinstein was expelled from the Academy past year after exposés detailing allegations of his extensive actions of sexual harassment went public.

United States inflation in March hits Fed goal
Meanwhile, the U.S. personal income and spending rose 0.3 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively in March, the same filing said. But as spending rose in March, so did inflation, which rose 1.9 percent year-over-over - the fastest pace since February 2017.

In 2003, the voters of the Academy were happy to award Polanski the best director Oscar for his work on the wartime drama The Pianist.

Removing a member of the TV Academy's Hall of Fame is unprecedented, so it's unclear what the procedure might be for such a move.

The decision was easier in the cases of Polanski and Cosby in that both have been convicted of crimes.

Many awkward decisions are still to be made.
