Microsoft's veteran Windows head Terry Myerson to leave company

Enterprise Mobility and Management: Brad Anderson will continue to lead our Windows Enterprise deployment and management efforts with even tighter alignment across Microsoft 365 and will partner closely with the EMS teams within Cloud + AI Platform. And after 21 years, Microsoft Executive Vice President Terry Myerson will leave the company. The goal of the the newly created "Windows and Devices Group" was, in the CEO's words, to "propel the Windows ecosystem forward" and "drive Windows as a service across devices of all types" to increase hardware sales.

Microsoft describes the tool as a "reference implementation for a Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) distribution installer application".

With today's moves, Microsoft is not throwing in the towel on Windows or its Surface line. Scott Guthrie, the executive vice president in charge of Microsoft's Azure business, will lead that group. Foley further says Panos Panay will get a Chief Product Officer title but otherwise remains the head of Microsoft devices. The name is fairly self-explanatory, as Guthrie will head up development of Microsoft's cloud services and its AI and augmented reality research and development. Zander and Roanne Sones will be taking over the responsibility.

The company's AI + Research division, formed two years ago under the leadership of Harry Shum, remains intact, while the revamped cloud division will have a significant AI component as well. It is important for both Microsoft's client and server businesses, of course, but it's also fundamental to the Azure platform.

Netanyahu's release from hospital imminent: Israeli PM's office says
A U.S. official said it would be located at a provisional site in Jerusalem that now houses a United States consular section. The third phase, the site selection and construction of a new embassy, will take up to nine years.

No layoffs are expected as part of the reorganization. The new team will oversee all Microsoft's speech, vision, mixed reality, and other perception capabilities, and it will continue to build first-party experiences and cloud services for third parties on Azure.

In making the change, Nadella invoked Conway's Law, a 1960's adage that holds a company's software will be structured in much the same way as the company itself. "And although reviews left in the Store are shown only in the Reviews report in Dev Center, feedback left via Feedback Hub will be visible to everyone, so make sure your testers get you their input in some other way", Redmond's dev team said.

I'm hearing from my contacts there are not going to be layoffs associated with today's reorg. It also marks the next chapter in Nadella's ongoing rebuild of Microsoft in the post-Ballmer era.
