Wendy Williams back on TV after weeks off for health issue

Wendy Williams gave her first on-air interview Monday after being forced to take three weeks off due to her battle with hyperthyroidism and Graves' disease.

The 53 year-old talk show host has been suffering from hyperthyroidism for nearly 20 years, but Williams learned how to medically and physically manage her symptoms in order to further her career prospects and establish herself within the entertainment industry.

"I cried. And then I laughed", Williams said, revealing that she told her doctor, "Are you out of your mind?"

"We, as women, particularly if - we have families, you know, we're taking care of children, we're taking care of, you know, home, our husbands, we take care of everybody but ourselves", she explained. But after she fainted live on the air during a show last October, her health became the most popular topic of them all.

Then she got the news she did not expect to hear - she would have to take time off from the show. "He's the one who handles the thyroid and the Graves", the star said.

"It was a ideal storm; a flawless storm that had been brewing, I have to say, internally, knowing my body, since late July", Williams told Amy Robach during the interview.

"If you have one you don't necessarily have to have the other, but I have both, and I was diagnosed with both 19 years ago". I'm also going through menopause, ' explained Williams. Prior to the taping, the host spoke with Amy Robach on Good Morning America to discuss her three-week hiatus.

Williams told her viewers that it feels like there are "birds swimming around my head, like a cartoon". Now, the talk show host has nine different doctors she said during her big return.

Williams also requested that her fans don't ask her how her health is.

She admitted that she did not prioritize her health before learning about her diagnosis.
