'American Idol': How ABC's Premiere Compares to the Original

As usual, the first episodes of "American Idol" will revolve around the auditions, so those have been pretaped.

"I just sit there on the table and I'm like, 'really Lionel? you hung out with Prince and Michael and Whitney?"

For starters, the gimmick has been diluted by the numerous follow-up seasons (this will be the sixteenth "Idol") and various competitive shows.

While the show might not be a completely ideal format for new artists, Alaina is still thrilled to see it returning in 2018, after being off the air for two years.

By giving fans instant access to millions of songs, streaming services further dampen the impact of music competition series.

Ron Bultongez of Plano, Texas plays and sings for the judges on "American Idol" on Sunday, March 11, 2018.

Katy Perry lawsuit: Nun involved in property row 'dies in court'
Sister Holzman , apparently, sided with Hollister , telling the court, "We asked [ Hollister ] to save us, to buy the property. Perry agreed to buy the property for $14.5m (£10.4m) in 2015, but the deal turned sour when the former residents objected.

You feel that Richie's speaking from brutal experience, peddling an image of the music business that feels much harsher than the "live your truth!" shiny musical dream that the whole foundation of American Idol indulges. "So we'll see what mood people are in". Can that unicorn (er, superstar) be found? But executives at ABC and Fremantle seem irked (and perhaps rightly) by the persistent questions about Idol's financial viability.

Sussett applied for American Idol auditions in 2015, but that didn't go anywhere. The show can (and must), however, make certain improvements moving forward.

Sussett says she was at a local karaoke event a year ago when members of the local Top-40 cover band Higher Ground noticed her and eventually hired her. Cute little viral "moments" may inspire short-term chatter, but compelling, magical stories are what make shows like this matter. "It felt like "Idol" wasn't getting the attention it needed to thrive, and that's what we'll do here". Simon Cowell became an overnight sensation in America simply because he wasn't nice to contestants! "But they are honest judges", says Mills.

Here's what you need to know when the series returns Sunday night. While it's not exactly the parade of ridicule that the show leaned into early in its life, the producers have delivered several delusional and bad singers to the judges.

The judges are #Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. "I thought about it and I said, 'How many people are actually going to read it?' Then I thought about Idol reaching people".

You will most likely not, however, experience renewed senses of energy or goal.

The return of American Idol is major news as it's the original talent search that launched the careers of a number of the industry's biggest names: Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood, among others.
