Sneijder calls time on Oranje career

Netherlands' most capped player Wesley Sneijder announces his retirement from global duty with immediate effect.

The 33-year-old agreed to walk away from worldwide football following a meeting with head coach Ronald Koeman.

'Wesley is one of the best Dutch footballers of recent years, ' said Koeman in a statement on the KNVB's website.

The 33-year-old Sneijder said he knew his worldwide career would be in jeopardy when he left Nice in January to play at Al Gharafa in Qatar.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Sneijder said he wants to pull on the Oranje shirt one last time, "It is my wish - and that is also known by the KNVB - to say goodbye to my fellow internationals and the Oranje-fans".
