North Korea rejects chemical links to Syria as 'mean U.S. trick'

North Korea has denied reports it has cooperated with Syria on chemical weapons, dismissing them as a fabrication by the United States to pressure the country, state media reports.

In order to defend itself from such threats, Han said the North "had access to nuclear weapons" and it won't hesitate to respond to any confrontations from Washington.

North Korea has been under United Nations sanctions since 2006 over its ballistic missile and nuclear programs and the Security Council has ratcheted up the measures in response to six nuclear weapons tests and several long-range missile launches. "We have full capability and will to confront any option favored by the U.S".

"As had been elucidated several times, the DPRK does not have a single record of developing, producing and stockpiling a chemical weapon, and it is opposed to chemical weapon itself", a press release from North Korea's United Nations mission in NY reads.

Russian Federation has joined North Korea's closest ally, China, in an attempt to mediate the nuclear crisis by instituting a "freeze for freeze" or "double freeze" strategy.

But it's not illegal in any way, unlike a lot of the things that North Korea is doing today to generate funds: counterfeiting USA dollars and cigarettes or selling wildlife and illegal drugs.

For its part, North Korea said it would not give up its nuclear weapons, arguing that it has been driven to develop a nuclear deterrent because of USA "hostility".

US President Donald Trump had announced on February 23 that "heaviest sanctions ever" placed on North Korea.

"The dialogue we desire is the one created to discuss and resolve the issues of mutual concern on an equal footing between states", the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying.

"The United States Government has determined that the Government of North Korea has used chemical weapons in violation of global law or lethal chemical weapons against its own nationals.", the notice reads.

Following the deadliest conflict in the history of mankind, North Korea and South Korea were split by World War II allies the Soviet Union and the 1945.

But the North's state-run media hit back by accusing the USA of being the first user of chemical weapons and employing biochemical munitions to kill around 50,000 people during the 1950-53 Korean War.
