Former recruiter sues Google, says white and Asian candidates were 'purged'

A former recruiter for Google and YouTube has sued the search ad beast, claiming he was sacked for objecting to hiring policies that discriminated against white and Asian men. Wilberg's lawsuit claims that YouTube recruiters were told to cancel interviews with applicants that weren't female, black or Hispanic and to "purge entirely" any applications that did not fit those criteria.

In another lawsuit this week, Google was dragged to court by a former female employee, who claimed that she often faced discrimination because of the so-called "bro culture" at the company. "We have a clear policy to hire candidates based on their merit, not their identity", a Google spokesperson told RT.com, adding that the company is unapologetic about hiring a wide group of qualified candidates as it helps the tech giant "build better products".

After Damore was terminated, he and another white engineer filed a discrimination lawsuit against his former employer.

Wilberg alleges he was sacked in retaliation for complaining to human resources about the company's hiring practices.

In January, James Damore, the engineer who was sacked after writing a screed against Google's diversity efforts, filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination against white people, men, and political conservatives.

Arne Wilberg worked at Google and YouTube as a recruiter, contractor, and full-time employee for almost a decade. Wilberg also alleged that late a year ago, management deleted emails and other digital records of diversity requirements.

Wilberg said that in 2016 and 2017, he and his fellow recruiters were told on several occasions to approve or dismiss job candidates based exclusively on whether they were women, black or Latino. Wilberg also claims that a YouTube staffing manager instructed the YouTube recruiting team to "clean up" its diversity hiring practices, but told Wilberg that the changes were temporary and recruiters would return to quota-based hiring.

It is not the first time the company is criticized over its diversity practices. However, the Journal cites anonymous sources that corroborate some of Wilberg's claims.

According to Bloomberg, Arne Wilberg worked at Google for nine years as both an employee and contractor.
