AIMPLB sacks cleric for suggesting out of court settlement in Ayodhya dispute

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today expelled a cleric from the board who suggested that land for a mosque and a university away from the disputed Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya could be an option for Muslims.

Meanwhile, a CJI Dipak Misra-led bench in the Supreme Court, on Thursday, declared the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi issue as a land dispute, stating that it does not intend to allow any third-party intervention at this stage. The six-member AIMPLB delegation -Maulana Salman Husaini Nadvi, UP Sunni Central Waqf Board chairperson Zufar Farooqui, former IAS officer Anis Ansari, advocate Imran Ahmed, Maulana Wasif Hasan Waizi of Teeli Wali Masjid and director of Objective Research and Development Athar Husain - had a three-hour meeting with the Art of Living founder on Thursday here in Bengaluru. He went against the board's stand that the mosque land can never be sold, gifted or exchanged.

On first day of three-day plenary, the Board issued a statement clarifying that there was no change in stand of the Board vis a vis Babri Masjid. He said some members may have met them in their personal capacity. "If anybody has any issue, he may discuss it with the board".

With Board president Moulana Rabey Hasan Nadvi in chair, member Qasim Rasool Ilyas raised the matter and moved a motion for action against Salman Nadvi.

Nadvi, an executive member of the AIMPLB, who met Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar earlier this week, extended support for construction of the Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

Maulana Nadwi, who is now in Hyderabad to attend the AIMPLB executive meeting, is expected to return here tomorrow.

He said he is working for the peace and wants to build a mosque at a location where Muslims can pray peacefully and an Islamic Univresity can also be built adjacent to it where people from all faiths can come and learn about Islam. "By demolishing Babri Masjid, it never loses its identity as a masjid. But Hindu groups always asked Muslims to relinquish its claim from Babri Masjid".

"Both of them in their addresses have said that triple talaq bill which is now pending in the Rajya Sabha is not acceptable to the Muslim community because it is against the Constitution". AIMPLB also defended its decision by saying "only Supreme Court can decide on this decision", CNN-News 18 reported.
