Shirtless Tongan grabs Olympic attention again

The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea are in full swing and the world can't seem to get enough of the shirtless, oiled-up, Tongan flag-bearer Pita Taufatofua.

The 34-year-old Taufatofua also carried his country's flag at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where he competed in taekwondo.

The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the first Games held in South Korea in 30 years, officially opened on Friday with fireworks, song and symbolism featured amid celebrations of light, peace, and harmony. At the Summer Games, he was the first athlete to ever represent Tonga in taekwondo.

The Tongan braved freezing cold conditions at the Opening Ceremony on Friday to repeat his star turn, waving his country's flag with his torso again liberally oiled.

Sticking with the whole, "I don't care what the weather says it is I'm dressing like it's summer" theme of the Opening Ceremony, Bermuda chose to make their grand debut in shorts. I said I was going to keep as warm as possible.

Yuna Kim lights the cauldron at the Winter Olympics. Come on, now - you know Taufatofua better than that!

Congratulations to Pita Taufatofua and good luck with cross country skiing (and don't get frostbite before you get to compete!).

"I am just a regular guy, an ordinary person who has one thing a little different, but that anybody else can have". In fact, Tonga has only ever had one other competitor qualify during the Winter Olympics' entire history: a luge racer in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games named Bruno Banani.

The Bermuda Olympic team arrived at the Olympic opening ceremony wearing shorts as temperatures fell to -1 degree.

As for his Opening Ceremony attire - or rather lack of it - Taufatofua admitted the freezing temperatures were very much on his mind.
