Snow leaves roads treacherous in upper Midwest

Rates of about a half-inch per hour are expected through Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The central and northern Rockies also will see heavy snow, the weather service said. The snow that began falling late Thursday afternoon is expected to continue through Friday as the storm moves east.

MDOT operates 85 plows in South west MI and have begun 12 hours shifts to try and keep up with the snow on state trunk lines and highways in southwest MI. He's says "we're tried and tested here".

Portions of northern IN were hit hard, with 8 inches reported IN New Carlisle.

Snow continues to fall with the heaviest snow continuing to focus south of the Interstate 69 corridor into Oakland and Wayne counties.
