Olympics: More Russians appeal Pyeongchang exclusion to CAS

The IOC confirmed that only athletes who have "fulfilled the pre-games testing requirements", including the IRP's criteria, "as well as the required reanalysis from stored samples", would be allowed to compete at the Games.

Pound also criticized the "perverse" judgments of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which last week reversed life Olympic bans on 28 Russian athletes and staff.

A hearing is set to take place on Wednesday, two days before the Games.

Earlier, the CAS upheld appeals filed by 28 Russian athletes, who had received lifetime bans on participating in any Olympics event over the alleged doping violations in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday declined a request to admit 13 more athletes and two coaches from Russian Federation to the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

While the organizers of the Games - the International Olympic Committee - would prefer to be talking about the excitement of Winter Olympic sports and the star athletes of PyeongChang 2018, instead it's embroiled in courtroom battles. In the next few days, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) - sport's top arbitration body - will hear an appeal by a group of Russian athletes who are challenging the decision to exclude them from the Winter Olympics, nearly a month after they were excluded from the competition.

Eagles release statement on Brian Dawkins' Hall of Fame selection
He led the 49ers in receptions five times and ranks second in their history with 592 catches, 8,572 yards, and 81 TDs. The Class of 2018 added two players to the lineup of Pro Football Hall of Fame players with Alabama roots.

In a statementexternal link released on Monday, the International Olympic Committee said its move against the CAS decision was because the "full reasoning for these decisions had not been made public". International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach called the invited Russian athletes "ambassadors of a new generation" who "can be the new role models for a change of culture in Russian sport". One of them being the invitation of around 169 athletes with no doping history to compete as neutrals.

This is despite a highly orchestrated plot culminating in Russia's hosting of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, where tainted samples were switched through a hole in the anti-doping laboratory's wall.

"We talk more than we walk". Our commitment to both is in serious doubt. Neither athlete has previously served a doping ban.

However, it appeared to be an unpopular opinion from Pound, who along with Britain's Adam Pengilly was the only delegate to abstain from an otherwise unanimous vote of confidence in the IOC's handling of the Russian suspension.

"They've been left out there, hanging alone, with no protection whatsoever from the Olympic movement", said Pound, adding: "I would say more attention has been paid to getting Russian athletes into the Pyeongchang Games than dealing with the Russian conduct".

Bach will try to focus on the opening ceremony and look for good news as North Korean and South Korean athletes compete alongside each other under a symbolic deal aimed at easing tension on the Korean peninsula.
