Falcon Heavy completes static fire test

SpaceX is planning to launch the first flight of its big new Falcon Heavy rocket "in a week or so", according to a tweet sent out by Elon Musk on Wednesday.

This week's video comes from Florida where SpaceX has conducted a static firing test on Falcon Heavy, a launch vehicle created to lift over 54 metric tons of payload into orbit. American Eastern Standard Time for about 10 seconds, spewing violent exhaust and steam, a video on SpaceX's official twitter showed.

He added that the mega-rocket's maiden launch could be just a week away or so.

SpaceX's first Falcon Heavy flight will be about testing it in real-world flight. While a launch date is not now scheduled, SpaceX founder Elon Musk expects to launch within "a week or so". If the SES-16/GovSat 1 mission delays, so will Falcon Heavy. It also has three times more engines.

For those watching the premiere flight from the Space Coast, SpaceX's plans to return all three boosters back to Earth should produce impressive visuals.

Rocket Lab achieves orbit on historic launch from New Zealand
That affordability means Rocket Lab is now able to carry out launches with some degree of regularity. So New Zealand really stands alone with a technically advanced, commercially focussed launch vehicle.

The cargo on board for this mission is a cherry red original model Tesla Roadster - and if things go very well, it'll be put into a long looping Mars orbit, a nod to everything Musk's ventures have accomplished thus far, and also what they hope to achieve in the future.

He specified that it is the "no earlier than" date and that it could still change, but as of right now, it is the planned launch date.

"I love the thought of a auto drifting apparently endlessly through space and perhaps being discovered by an alien race millions of years in the future". Musk has repeatedly warned the rocket could explode.

The megarocket's launch will represent another major first for Musk and his company's pursuit of re-usability. After blasting off from NASA's historic Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center, all three will attempt vertical landings, two on land and one on a floating offshore platform.
