Coquelin close to Valencia move

Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has given the green light to a four-and-a-half-year contract offered by Valencia and talks over a transfer fee are expected to conclude over the next 24 hours.

Francis Coquelin is leaving Arsenal after nearly a decade at the club following the agreement of a £12 million transfer to Valencia.

West Ham and Crystal Palace were said to be ready to take advantage of the situation to lure him away from Arsenal ahead of the second part of the season.

The Hammers, under David Moyes, look decent after an early scare of dropping into the relegation zone. Signing Coquelin would strengthen their squad and Hodgson views the defensive midfielder as a valuable addition to his squad.

"Its a possibility but nothing is decided", he said during his pre-match press conference, before adding that "we have had no contact with West Ham".

A new contract signed past year means Arsenal collect a sizeable fee.

West Ham are looking at Arsenal midfield duo Mohammed Elneny and Francis Coquelin as their search for a new central midfielder continues. The exclusion was not due to injury as Wenger had reported him to be fit.
