Steyn may not bowl again in Test series against India

India's top-order batting was blown away by South Africa's fast bowlers as the tourists were reduced to 82 for seven at tea in pursuit of a victory target of 208 on the fourth day of the first Test at Newlands.

In the series against England, the South African pacer sustained a shoulder injury that kept him out for two Tests but he suffered a major setback when he broke his shoulder bone during the Perth Test against Australia which sidelined him for 13 months.

Rain prevented any play on the third day of the first Test between South Africa and India at Newlands yesterday, but with fine weather expected for the remaining two days there is still a good chance of a result. Rabada finished with figures of 2/41 while Morkel also chipped in with 2/39, but man of the match Philander routed India to finish with career-best figures of 6/42, to ensure that the Proteas went up 1-0 in the three-match series.

"We're a team that's prepared to take risks to win games of cricket", du Plessis said.

Ravichandran Ashwin top scored with 37 but Philander took the final three wickets in four balls to complete the victory.

Rabada struck again with what became the last ball before tea‚ removing Wriddhiman Saha leg-before.

Former skipper AB de Villiers (35) was the lone batsman offering some kind of resistance even as the Indian pacers led by Mohammed Shami (3/28) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/39) took full advantage of the conditions. Now he will not play in this match.

Heading into the Cape Town Test, South Africa's head coach Ottis Gibson had expressed reluctance to slot him back in the squad against India as he was out for close to a year. India has never won a series in South Africa, losing five of the six it has played.

South Africa resumed their second innings on 65/2‚ and lost eight wickets for 65 runs in the 21.2 overs bowled in the morning session to be dismissed for 130.
