Trump Blasts CNN After Top Aide's Heated Interview

Tapper pressed Miller in particular about the book's characterization of a June 2016 meeting with Kremlin-linked figures at Trump Tower in which the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and son Donald Trump Jr. took part. That word means subservient or servile, and Tapper said, "there's one viewer that you care about right now..."

During a news conference from Camp David Saturday, President Trump once again railed against Michael Wolff, author of Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, calling the book a "work of fiction" and denying ever granting Wolff an interview or allowing him in the Oval Office.

During the interview, Miller blasted Fire and Fury as "a garbage book", praised Trump as a "political genius," and echoed Trump's assertion Bannon had little to do with his presidency. Tapper remarked, as Miller continued to speak over him.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has expressed regret over comments attributed to him in a controversial new book about US Prsident Donald Trump's White House.

Miller downplayed Bannon's role in Trump's campaign and at the White House during the early months of the administration as "greatly exaggerated".

Shortly after, Trump tweeted his approval of Miller's appearance.

UPDATE: Miller's boss approves of the interview.

Bannon claimed in his statement that the comments in the book were aimed not at Trump or his family but at Paul Manafort - Trump's former campaign chairman, who was sacked and is facing charges as part of special counsel Robert S. Muller's Russia investigation - who, Bannon said, should have known how the Russians - whom he called "duplicitous, cunning and not our friends" - operate.

Mike Pompeo, the C.I.A. director, said that he had no concerns about Mr. Trump's ability to receive and process the kind of intelligence typically presented to presidents, and that Mr. Wolff's descriptions of Mr. Trump's mental state were "pure fantasy".

The White House and President Trump have denounced Bannon and the book since excerpts began leaking last week.

"Stephen, I'm trying to get to the issue of the president's fitness, which a lot of people are questioning", Mr. Tapper said. 'Watch the hatred and unfairness of this CNN flunky!' Miller also went on to say it was "unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments, so out of touch with reality".

NBC News has not confirmed much of the book.

"Because it's my show, and I don't want to do that", Mr. Tapper said.

That's when Miller lost his cool and accused Tapper of being "condescending".

Asked about Trump's mental state, Miller said flatly that "no one questions the stability of the president".

Miller tried to protest, but Tapper quickly said, 'Thank you Stephen.' The camera panned away from the White House aide as Tapper started reading from the teleprompter, readying his audience the next segment.
