'Jeopardy!' Is On Hiatus While Alex Trebek Recovers From Brain Surgery

Long-running Jeopardy host (and Coolio aficionado) Alex Trebek has announced he will be taking a break from his quizmaster duties as he recovers from surgery.

Trebek posted a video on YouTube explaining he spent two days in the hospital following the surgery and is now recovering at home. "After two days in the hospital, I came home to start recovery".

Alex Trebek is one of the most well-known game show hosts in America. He was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma and underwent surgery to remove it December 16. Trebek, 77, underwent surgery in December after he hit his head during a fall, which caused some bleeding outside the brain. While many others in Trebek's profession have left the stage, he has been the face of "Jeopardy!" since 1984.

"He is expected to make a full and complete recovery", the Sony statement said, per NBC News.

Trebek is set to return to taping "Jeopardy" in mid-January.

Despite his medical leave, the show will air new episodes, which were taped in advance.
