Minnesota Public Radio Cuts Ties With Garrison Keillor After Alleged Inappropriate Behavior

The current iteration of "A Prairie Home Companion", hosted by Keillor's successor, Chris Thile, will be renamed, MPR said.

Minnesota Public Radio is ending distribution and broadcast of The Writer's Almanac and rebroadcasts of The Best of A Prairie Home Companion hosted by Garrison Keillor, and is going to change the name of the show which is now hosted by Chris Thile.

In an email to MPR's news boss Wednesday afternoon, Keillor wrote, "I think the country is in the grip of a mania - the whole Franken business is an absurdity - and I wish someone [would] resist it, but I expect MPR to look out for itself, and meanwhile I feel awfully lucky to have hung on for so long".

According to Keillor, who released a statement to the AP, the firing was due to "a story that I think is more interesting and more complicated than the version MPR heard". "A person could not hope for more than what I was given".

Keillor, 75, wrote about how Franken participated in a USO tour in 2006 before he ran for the U.S. Senate and when he was still in the "comedy biz". Actors hug, musicians hug, people were embracing every Saturday night left and right, and I stood off in the corner like a stone statue.

Critics react to Trump's tweet on firing Flynn
Information about it was leaked to the media in January, after Trump's inauguration. As part of his plea on Friday, Mr Flynn agreed to cooperate with the investigation.

This news comes just one day after the radio host wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post calling the notion that his fellow Minnesotan Senator Al Franken should resign following sexual harassment allegations "absurd,"and saying "the atrocity it leads to is a code of public deadliness".

"Based on what we now know, there are no similar allegations involving other staff", MPR said. "So this is poetic irony of a high order", he added.

MPR President Jon McTaggart said: "Garrison Keillor has been an important part of the growth and success of MPR, and all of us in the MPR community are saddened by these circumstances". The update said: "The Post takes allegations of this kind seriously and is seeking more information about them".

Keillor's ouster is the latest fallout in a series of sexual misconduct allegations against powerful men that began with the highly public accusations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in October. In recent weeks, National Public Radio has also fired or suspended male executives who've been accused of harassment. The crowd was quiet, NPR said. She said she wants a fuller explanation from MPR officials.

MPR and Keillor began their association in 1969 and launched "Prairie Home" in 1974 with a live broadcast from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Star-Tribune said.
