Michael Flynn to Plead Guilty Over False Statements to Federal Bureau of Investigation

Flynn is the fourth former Trump campaign official to be charged by special counsel Robert Mueller's wide-ranging probe into alleged Russian election interference.

Flynn is the most senior member of the Trump administration to have been indicted by the special counsel thus far.

Flynn pleaded guilty Friday to making false statements to the FBI, becoming the first official who worked in the Trump White House to make a guilty plea so far in a wide-ranging investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller into possible coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

Flynn will say that Trump "directed him to make contact with the Russians", flatly contradicting Trump's claim that he had nothing to do with Russia before or after his surprise election. But I recognise that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right. We hope that the cooperation of General Flynn that Special Counsel has secured as a part of this plea agreement extends to Flynn's cooperation with our committee, as his testimony could greatly advance our efforts.

In late December of previous year, Flynn called senior Trump transition team members at Mar-a-Lago in Florida three times to discuss conversations he was having with Kislyak about sanctions the United States placed on Russia and the Russian response to them.

The Associated Press reported that the former Trump campaign and White House official admitted that "Trump transition officials directed his contacts with the Russians".

Previous reports have purported that Flynn spoke with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak shortly after President Barack Obama imposed sanctions on Russia.

Michael Flynn is ready to spill the beans on Trump, according to Ross.

The Obama administration, in a rare step that shocked its Middle East ally, planned to abstain on the motion rather than veto it as had been done in the past.

This past Valentine's Day, President Trump asked then FBI Director James Comey to stick around following a meeting with a group of national security officials in the Oval Office.

"The false statements involved mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year", Cobb said in a statement released to reporters.

Friday's news made clear that Trump's inner circle, if not the president himself, are increasingly under threat by Mueller's investigation. His business dealings and foreign interactions have made him a central focus of Mueller's investigation.

The opposition Democratic Party was quick to slam Trump.

In January, the country's top intelligence chiefs said they had strong evidence showing Moscow had interfered in the campaign, by hacking and disinformation operations, specifically to boost Trump's chances of winning.

During the Republican National Convention in July 2016, when Trump was officially nominated as the GOP's candidate, Flynn led the entire convention in a repeated chant of "Lock her up!"

"Since the first day I took office, all you hear is the phony Democrat excuse for losing the election, Russia, Russia, Russia", he tweeted last week. As Mueller's probe intensified in the early months of the Trump administration, Gates left the nonprofit altogether.

George Papadopoulos? Just a low-level "volunteer" for the campaign who wasn't even worth remembering for both President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with a Russian diplomat, but was persuaded to cooperate after he learned the extent of the information Mueller's team had on him, Ross said.
