DC Comics Fires Editor Eddie Berganza Over Assault Allegations

In the report, three women-two of them former DC Comics employees-described incidents in which Berganza attempted to forcibly touch and kiss them.

The latest entertainment industry figure to come under fire (or firing) for sexual-related offenses is Eddie Berganza, one of the top editors at DC Comics. Everyone who said they complained about Berganza to DC's human resources department in 2010 has since left the company, and some comics professionals said they turned down offers to work on titles that Berganza oversaw because of the allegations against him.

Allegations against Berganza have persisted for more than a decade, but they never resulted in any permanent disciplinary action until 2012, when Berganza was demoted from executive editor down to group editor.

One day after Berganza's suspension was made public, DC chose to fire him, telling Buzzfeed that the company was "committed to eradicating harassment". Within comics culture, Berganza's alleged behavior has for years been an open secret, the subject of gossip and open speculation.

In fact, Buzzfeed's report wasn't the first time Berganza had been publicly accused of sexual misconduct.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek "really happy" with England debut
Loftus-Cheek, 21, found it mentally tough to handle life in the shadows and had to learn to be patient. Gareth said to do my best like I normally do.

Instances of abuse recounted in the article included Berganza forcibly kissing female co-workers, groping others, and making offensive jokes directed at women. Rumors of harassment had long followed Berganza. In the end, DC Comics made the right decision, but many are asking why this didn't happen sooner. Berganza, who was up for a promotion to executive editor at the time, received that promotion anyway.

By Monday morning, some comic book sites were reporting that DC Comics has fired Beganza.

"There will be a prompt and yet careful review into next steps as it relates to the allegations against him, and the concerns our talent, employees and fans have shared", the company initially said.

The statement added that DC Comics was 'committed to eradicating harassment'.

In response to this news DC said in a statement: 'DC and Warner Bros are unequivocally committed to cultivating a work environment of dignity and respect, one that is safe and harassment free for all employees'.
