Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Tops iTunes, Stays Off Streaming Services (For Now)

Yet, even with its controversy-winking title, Reputation is probably the least-gossipy release of Swift's career. Reportedly 800,000 fans tried to download Reputation in the first six minutes it was released, slowing down the app store and making it hard for some to listen to her new songs.

And beyond songs like Gorgeous and Delicate that deliberately reference Alwyn, Swift spends the majority of Reputation lusting after, falling in love with and eventually pledging her loyalty to her new beau, the most time she's ever spent on a romantic upswing on one of her albums.

But while Swift's country instrumentals may be a thing of the past, her flair for storytelling shines through on the album's most engaging songs, like the delightfully dishy Getaway Car, which tells the story of her tabloid drama with Tom Hiddleston by portraying him as her hapless driver, whom she abandons after their heist.

While a few fans tweeted out images of iTunes failing them, other fans commented back that it took about 40 minutes for them to finally hear the songs, but according to the overall positive response that Reputation has gotten thus far, we have a feeling that it was worth the wait - and the frustration.

The album cover for "Reputation".

"This is why we can't have nice things, darling", goes the chorus.

Right now, that's the best we're gonna get. In verse two, she makes it clear that "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" is about burning bridges. "And here's to you, 'cause forgiveness is a nice thing to do", she sings to him, before breaking out in laughter, exclaiming, "I can't even say it with a straight face!" Swift turns 28 next month, and Reputation sees her fully embracing a more adult-sounding sexuality. The kicker is her explicit reference to the speakerphone call during which Kim recorded her, as Swift continues, "And therein lies the issue/Friends don't try to trick you/Get you on the phone and mind-twist you/And so I took an ax to a mended fence". To follow the song's metaphor, Hiddleston is the getaway auto driver who whisks Swift away from another man ("Well he was running after us / I was screaming 'Go go go!'").
