Massive rallies marks 1979 United States embassy seizure in Iran

Iran on Saturday displayed a surface-to-surface missile as part of events marking the anniversary of the 1979 USA embassy takeover and hostage crisis. News agencies described it as a Sejil surface-to-surface missile with a range of 1,200 miles.

"And when a missile is tested thousands of kilometers away, after (issuing empty) threats, all their president does is put out a tweet", he said in an apparent reference to North Korea's missile tests.

Trump also refused to recertify and threatened to terminate the hard-won Iran nuclear accord, saying it was "one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into". Under that deal, most worldwide sanctions on Iran were lifted in exchange for Tehran curbing nuclear activity.

On November 4, 1979, Iranian student revolutionaries climbed over the walls of the US Embassy in Tehran and seized dozens of Americans, holding them hostage for 444 days.
