Should be Ayurveda hospital in every district, says PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi referred to "izzat ghar" - a term coined by the UP government, which links women's pride with the construction of toilets - during a speech he delivered while inaugurating the first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) here.

On the occasion of National Ayurveda Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Tuesday and enumerated the advantages of ayurveda.

Emphasising that Ayurveda will provide affordable healthcare, Union Minister for State for AYUSH, Shripad Yesso Naik on Monday stated that a three-fold increase in market size of Ayurvedic products from Dollars 2.5 billion to Dollars 8 billion is expected by 2022.

"The AYUSH Ministry is swiftly working in that direction, and in just three years, over 65 AYUSH hospitals have been set up", he added.

In his speech lasting almost 50 minutes, Modi said progress at the cost of national heritage has always pushed countries towards their doom and that Ayurveda, neglected by colonial powers in a bid to run down traditional Indian knowledge, had never been given the attention it deserved even after Independence.

The prime minister said Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) ministry was working on other schemes like Ayush villages and wanted corporate houses to promote Ayurveda by spending from their corporate social responsibility fund.

"That is why the Government has laid stress on integrating Ayurveda, Yoga and other AYUSH systems into the public healthcare system", PM said. "Let's pledge to strengthen, revive Ayurveda", Modi said at the event. "I congratulate the state government for coining this name", Modi had said at the time in Varanasi. The farming of medicinal plants will generate new employment opportunities.
