Imran should appear before ECP, advises Shah

As per the recent reports, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has a non-bailable arrest warrant against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

According to PTI Spokesperson Naeemul Haq, the party is set to challenge the warrants in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In a written response that accompanied the documents, Imran said that he had mentioned the transfer of the money from his account to Jemima's in financial documents submitted before the Election Commission of Pakistan in 2003.

Addressing the media, PTI's Babar Awan said the ECP has issued a non-bailable warrant in a case where a bailable warrant has already been dismissed by the IHC. The court has ordered for Imran Khan to be arrested and brought in front of the court at the next hearing of the case, which is on 26th October.

Opposition leader Khursheed Shah advised Imran Khan on Thursday to appear before Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) before police arrest him.

Former PTI leader Akbar S. Babar had filed the petition in January this year, regarding the party's alleged receipt of illegal foreign-funding. During the meeting, the ECP made a decision to issue non-bailable warrants for Khan.

While in his previous hearing, the PTI Chief has submitted his reply through his lawyer, "I respect the ECP and believe in the supremacy of institutions". He further argued that the high court is going to hear a petition on the ECP's powers in connection with contempt of court hearings, DAWN reported.

Khan had initially raised objections over ECP's jurisdiction to initiate contempt proceedings against him.
