Trump plans working visit to the United Kingdom in early 2018

It was reported today that diplomats are now arranging a lower-key "working visit" for the president, which will be part of a tour he will make of a number of countries.

However he will not sleep at Buckingham Palace as the guest of the Queen, and there will not be a glitzy banquet in his honour.

Mr Trump's visit will now take place without the glitz and pomp of a full state visit, the Evening Standard reported.

"Not accurate, we've not yet scheduled anything for next year", Michael Anton, a national security official in the Trump administration, told The Hill when asked about the report.

It was immediately criticised as a breach of convention, as state visits are usually reserved for a president's second term.

Irving Oil Says Decision to Cancel Energy East Is a Lost Opportunity
Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre said the TransCanada announcement was "a handsome victory" against a "botched" pipeline project. The Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association and Regina Mayor Michael Fougere also spoke in favour of Energy East.

The report said a future state visit had not been ruled out, but no date had been set.

Several objections were made to May's proposal, leading House of Commons speaker John Bercow to declare that the president would not be allowed to address the house amid threats of both labour and Tory party boycotts and mass protests.

Donald Trump is set to make a scaled-down visit to Britain next year, it has been reported.

Hundreds of thousands of people had signed a petition against the plan.

Downing Street declined to comment but has said that its position has not changed since the offer was extended and accepted. But if a meeting with the Queen is the only card Theresa May has to play when trading with Trump, we are in for a long Brexit winter.
