Sen. McCain 'cannot in good conscience' vote for proposed GOP health law

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) issued a lengthy statement Friday afternoon announcing his opposition to the last-ditch Obamacare repeal effort in the Senate, which GOP leaders were hoping to bring for a vote next week.

That's similar to the reasoning he gave before voting against Republicans' last bill, known as the "skinny repeal", in July; McCain was the deciding vote then.

The moderate ME lawmaker on Friday said she is "leaning against" the Graham-Cassidy bill that would dismantle former President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act.

"I'm reading the fine print on Graham-Cassidy", Collins said.

Democrats have been united in opposing Republican efforts to make good on their years-long pledge to dismantle current law, a promise that also was central to US Republican President Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Rand Paul, who says the proposal doesn't go far enough in replacing the Affordable Care Act.

GlobalData Retail estimates that in 2016, about 13.7 percent of toy sales were made online, up from 6.5 percent five years ago. The Toys "R" Us chain is struggling to draw foot traffic, a sign it likely has too many locations for the digital era.

The closely divided Senate means that the Republicans, who control the chamber, can not lose more than two GOP senators if they hope to pass the legislation. Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, moderates who joined McCain in voting down the last attempt at Senate reform, have not confirmed their position, although Collins said on Friday she was "leaning against" it. However, after McCain's "no", if Paul remains a "no" and Collins also declares definitively she won't vote for the bill, Republicans openly acknowledge that's the ballgame. But the Cassidy-Graham bill - which would allow states to charge people with pre-existing condition more for premiums and do away with mandates on essential health benefits - faced fierce opposition from doctors, health care groups and Democrats.

Here's how it would work: The legislation would eliminate Obamacare's Medicaid expansion, as well as federal premium and cost-sharing subsidies to buy policies on the exchanges. On Tuesday, Kimmel said the Louisiana senator "lied right to my face", prompting Cassidy to say that Kimmel did not understand the bill.

It was the second day that the president has taken swipes at McCain.

Murkowski was one of three senators to kill the last Obamacare repeal effort over the summer. John McCain of Arizona announced he meant to vote against the bill. Sen. "The bill's authors are my dear friends, and I think the world of them". Sixty-one times to repeal and replace. I know they are acting consistently with their beliefs and sense of what is best for the country. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sen.

McCain joins Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on the firm GOP "no" list. Sen. Republican Senate leadership can only afford to lose two votes to pass Graham-Cassidy before 30 September.
