IOC Confirms LA Host of 2028 Olympics

So when Los Angeles agreed to host the 2028 Games back in July, it seemed all but settled that Paris would get the first crack in 2024, followed by L.A. four years later.

The members of the global olympic Committee have voted in favour of the attribution of the olympic Games in 2024 in Paris, this Wednesday evening in Lima.

The French capital, home of the father of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, last hosted the Summer Games in 1924, having first done so in 1900.

The evaluation commission signed off on those Monday, saying that although details need to be finalized, it is confident LA can host in 2028. IOC President Thomas Bach is already scheduled to light the Olympic caldron at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday.

Both will go through the formalities of outlining their bids in 25-minute presentations to the International Olympic Committee membership starting at 12pm (1700 GMT) local time at Lima Convention Centre. "Today, LA 2028 is taking the final step in our bid, and preparing to begin our 11-year journey as an Olympic host city".

Paris, with a total Games budget of €6.8 billion (NZ$11.1b), had failed with previous attempts to land the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

Carlo Ancelotti calm after Bayern Munich suffer season's first loss
Asked about Bayern president Uli Hoeness' long-term admiration of his talents, he said: "It's pleasing when a man like Uli Hoeness, who made Bayern great, rates you a bit".

The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, said: "Today I am delighted to invite you to join the great family of Parisians, a family which belongs to the world". The two cities were selected following a unanimous vote.

"Paris said it didn't want to host in 2028".

It also gives the International Olympic Committee the chance to award Games to bids that Patrick Baumann, chair of the evaluation commission, called "outstanding". The last American city to host the Summer Games was Atlanta in 1996. "Both cities are very enthusiastic about the Games and are promoting the Olympic spirit in a fantastic way", Bach said in a press release.

LA 2028, the renamed committee leading the city's bid, had proposed a balanced budget of $5.3 billion for '24 by utilizing existing venues and not building any new permanent structures just for the Games.

Bach first signalled publicly that the double-award of an Olympics could be on the agenda in December past year, lamenting that the bidding process produced “too many losers”.

"Many times every city is working so hard.to build the infrastructure, they can't think about the environment, they can't think about the economy, they can't think about the health of their people". That city commissioned a poll showing 88 percent of its residents supported bringing the Olympics back to Southern California.
