Black Hole 100000 times bigger than Sun discovered in Milky Way

That would also make it the second largest black hole known in our galaxy, after the supermassive one right at the center.

If their discovery can be confirmed, it would be the first ever evidence of an IMBH, which have always been viewed as the "missing link" in the evolution of these massive objects. A large, toxic gas cloud was found swirling in the middle of the galaxy. Nearby is the gas cloud CO-0.40-0.22, probable home to an intermediate-mass black hole.

"If confirmed by others, having such an intermediate mass black hole in our Milky Way is going to open up so many exciting possibilities", Schawinski said via email.

Scientists have found the most persuasive evidence yet that support the existence of a mid-sized black hole in the heart of the #Milky Way.

Now, researchers are making a similar case for what may be the second-biggest black hole in the Milky Way.

A recent research stated that the black holes are important for the creation of galaxies, stars and life itself.

Finding an IMBH (Intermediate Mass black hole) shall now become one of the key researches to be made by scientists across the world.

Artist impression of a black hole. To add further evidence, the researchers built a simulation of the gas cloud and its characteristics, particularly the gas velocities, and found that it, too, pointed to a mid-sized black hole. Eventually, Oka explained to The Guardian, the object will sink toward Sagittarius A*, closer and closer, until it's swallowed up, increasing the mass of Sagittarius A* as it joins it at the heart of our galaxy.

"Based on the careful analysis of gas kinematics, we concluded that a compact object with a mass of about 105M⊙ is lurking in this cloud", the researchers wrote in their study, which was published online on September 4. The amount of light coming out of it at these wavelengths were about 1/500 of that emitted by the supermassive black hole at our galaxy's center.

In 2016, Oka and colleagues from Keio University reported discovering a peculiar cloud of molecular gas, dubbed CO-0.40-0.22, near the center of the Milky Way.

Studies have suggested there could be between 100 million to 1 billion black holes in the Milky Way alone, but only about 60 have been identified. "Some of them seem very large". A typical stellar-class of black hole can be between approximately three and 10 solar masses.

Scientists believe they have discovered a huge black hole near the center of the Milky Way hiding within a massive cloud of molecular gas. This discovery shows that very young black holes grew more aggressively than previously thought, in tandem with the growth of their host galaxies. Instead, the scientists suggest it is the former core of a dwarf galaxy that has been subsumed into the Milky Way, stripped of its stars, and is destined to one day fall into Sgr A*.

"Further detection of such compact high-velocity features in various environments may increase the number of non-luminous black hole candidate and thereby increase targets to search for evidential proof of general relativity", Oka said.

They conclude their paper by saying that such a discovery would make a considerable contribution to the progress of modern physics.
