Zimbabwe, South Africa resolve row over airlines

Zimbabweans, both locally based and those based overseas, had joined South Africans in demanding Grace's arrest after the controversial first lady has continued to act above the law apparently with no consequences against her.

South African Airways resumed flights to Zimbabwe, it said in a statement on Sunday, and an Air Zimbabwe flight also departed from Harare to South Africa on Sunday morning.

Zimbabwe refused to let a South African Airways flight leave Harare airport on Saturday after the grounding on Friday evening of an Air Zimbabwe flight at Johannesburg's main worldwide airport.

We call on the First Lady of Zimbabwe to continue to push for a radical agenda in Zimbabwe and as South Africa we support the Land Chimurenga in that country.

According to Reuters, "the South African government has made no official comment on the case and foreign ministry spokesmen have not answered their phones for two days, but the issue is causing waves at the highest level".

Ms Engels claimed she was in a hotel room with mutual friends of the Mugabes' two sons, who live in Johannesburg, when the first lady burst into the room and assaulted her.

Mugabe, wife of Zimbabwe's longtime ruler, 93-year-old Robert Mugabe, is accused of beating a woman with an extension cord August 13 during a trip to Johannesburg.

South African police this week put a "red alert" on the country's borders to prevent any attempted flight by Ms Mugabe.

"We are going to ask the court to say that the decision to grant immunity is unlawful because our legislation says that diplomatic immunity can not apply in serious crimes, and violence is part of that", said Kriel.

Reports from South Africa also indicate that Grace had met with hotel management over the miscarriage and her violent behaviour.

President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace attend a rally of his ruling ZANU (PF) in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, July 29, 2017.

Zimbabwe has reportedly requested diplomatic immunity for the country's First Lady, which would mean she would not be prosecuted for the alleged incident.

"The important thing is the constitutional principle that any person in a public office may not take a decision that affects the rights of a citizen without the decision being made in a way that is fair and open to public scrutiny."

South African media reported that during a press briefing the lawyers said no guidelines were given by the officials as to what would happen if the Engels family do not write an amount on the cheque.

The group vowed to help Engels seek justice, adding that even if the court did not accept to overrule the immunity, the effort would still be positive as it could stop Grace Mugabe from visiting South Africa again.

Some demonstrators protested on Saturday in Pretoria against Mr Mugabe and his wife, saying she should be prosecuted.

"Arrest Grace, please. Grace is a disgrace", some chanted.
