At least seven other groups that frequented Mar-a-Lago - including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in NY and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami - have announced in recent months that they would choose other venues, citing reasons such as political differences and security hassles.

According to the Palm Beach Daily News social events calendar, The Red Cross was slated to host its International Red Cross Ball at the resort on February 3, 2018. Other medical organizations canceled galas at Mar-a-Lago earlier in the year, including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The ACS has held fundraising events at Mar-a-Lago since at least 2009, but will pull out of the venue for future galas.

"It has become increasingly clear that the challenge to those values is outweighing other business considerations".

The fallout continues after President Donald Trump's controversial comments following the violent street confrontations that left one person dead and several others injured last weekend in Charlottesville, VA.

Trump initially blamed "many sides" for hatred and bigotry on Saturday, but eventually specifically condemned white supremacist groups after facing harsh criticism. He instead assigned blame to both the counterprotesters and the white supremacists.

Outgoing Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove was a member of a business advisory council that reported to Trump.

Laurel Baker, executive director of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, said in an email that "each organization should examine their mission statements to ensure that any fundraising efforts are not compromising their efforts". Big Dog Ranch Rescue said Friday it would no longer hold an upcoming event at the club and would instead move it to the group's facility nearby. "Many say it's the dollars (raised at the events) that count. Yes". It referred questions to the Trump Organization, which did not respond to a request for comment.

As of June, only 25 events had been confirmed for the Mar-a-Lago's 2017-18 season, as compared with over 50 just before Trump announced his candidacy in 2014-15, the Post noted.
