Trump's Own National Security Advisor Has Debunked Trump Smear of Susan Rice

McMaster gave Rice, who served as former President Barack Obama's national security adviser, "unfettered and continuing access to classified information", and waived her "need-to-know" requirement on any documents she viewed during her tenure, Circa reported Thursday.

Cohen-Watnick, 31, was originally brought on board by former NSC chief Gen. Michael Flynn.

The source also said that Kelly and General James Mattis, the secretary of defense, have worked out a system where one of them stays in Washington while the other is overseas, in an effort to reduce the pattern of mixed foreign policy and military messages that have emanated from the White House since Trump took office.

The paragraph above also says Cohen-Watnick was "conducting the review". Such a move could earn McMaster a fourth star.

Days after Gen. John Kelly took over as White House chief of staff and immediately fired communication director Anthony Scaramucci, National Security Adviser Gen. H. R. McMaster is asserting his own authority with the firing of Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the National Security Council's senior director for intelligence.

"A different set of experiences is best-suited to carrying that work forward", a White House official told media, saying Cohen-Watnick would continue to make "many further significant contributions to national security" as part of the Trump administration.

Also gone is Derek Harvey, who held the Middle East portfolio at the NSC, and who also was an Iran hawk, and who may assume another role in the administration. There is little in the public record about Cohen-Watnick, though he reportedly survived a previous McMaster attempt to remove him.

Earlier Tuesday, The Atlantic reported the sacking of Rich Higgins, the NSC strategic planning director, after he penned a controversial memo claiming globalists, the "deep state", Islamists and others are trying to derail Trump's agenda.

But criticism over Nunes' actions led to him temporarily stepping aside his committee's investigation into Russia's election-year meddling. Ask around about Ezra Cohen-Watnick, and people get defensive.

Trump, according to several administration officials, has been considering a shakeup that could include appointing Mike Pompeo, the Central Intelligence Agency director, to take over as national security adviser, while sending McMaster to command forces in Afghanistan.

According to information obtained by Circa, dozens of times in 2016, those intelligence reports identified Americans who were directly intercepted talking to foreign sources or who were the subject of conversations between two or more monitored foreign figures.
