Facebook shuts down AI after it invents its own creepy language

Sadly this is the end of Bob and Alice's story, as we learn that Facebook has ultimately chose to require that these bots continue to communicate in a human-readable form of English (even when talking to each other). Well, we aren't there yet, but Facebook's bots conversing amongst one another using their own language - defying the code - which humans cannot understand sure looks like a scary sign. With that in mind, it makes sense that the engineers at Facebook opted to shut down the A.I. They noted that the language was possibly just a shorthand form of English used by the programs to work more efficiently.

Two artificial intelligence robots have been shut down by Facebook after they appeared to be chatting to each other in a unusual language which only they understood. Reports have been flying around of these robots creating their own sinister coded language, along with incomprehensible snippets of intriguing exchanges between the two of them. The sentences "I can i i everything else" and "balls have zero to me to me to me" sound like nonsense to us, but they demonstrate how two of the AI bots negotiated with each other.

The very obvious danger here is that computer which can communicate with each other using their own language are not only impossible to understand but much more hard to control.

At one point, Alice said "balls have a ball to me to me to me to me to me to me to me" to which Bob responded with: "i i can i i i everything else". Facebook simply pulled the plug because it was time for them to redirect their efforts to get closer to their own goals.

"Balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to", responded the other bot, named Alice.

The Facebook Artificial Intelligence Researchers (FAIR) set up an experiment where a number of chatbots were trained to become adept negotiators.

Iran successfully launches satellite carrier in low orbit
On Thursday, Iranian media reported that the space rocket had been successfully tested for the first time. The U.S. said Thursday that such a rocket is inherently created to be able to carry a nuclear warhead .

According to Next Web, researchers also discovered that the bots relied on advanced learning strategies to improve their negotiating skills - even going so far as to pretend they like an item in order to "sacrifice" it at a later time as a sort of faux compromise.

"There was no reward to sticking to English language", Batra told Fast Company in a July 14 interview.

While the AI did not do anything radical like most people expect it to, it developed a new language and started using it instead of using English and thus defying the goal.

The incident puts into perspective Elon Musk's earlier warning about AI.

Bob: you i everything else.

The initial spontaneous development of the independent language highlights how much we still don't understand about AIs, which is a huge part of the debate regarding AI research.
