Shah pulls up absentee RS MPs, party seeks explanation

NEARLY THREE years after the BJP came to power in Haryana, party chief Amit Shah will review the functioning of the Manohar Lal Khattar led-government in a series of meetings to be held at Rohtak for three days starting August 2.

Answering to a question on BJP's role in Bihar fiasco, Shah said they did not break any party, it is Nitish ji who ended the alliance and resigned. Now the government has to bring a new amended bill, which must be passed by the Lok Sabha as well.

The bill was passed - without the main clause which relates to its composition - by 74 to 52 votes.

The bill was passed earlier by the Lok Sabha with 360 MPs voting in its favour and two against it in April.

Some Republicans want him to offer his latest draft, and he probably will if he thinks he may have the votes to pass it. Before voting began, a group of protesters shouted "kill the bill'" and "shame" from the Senate's galleries.

Shah also blamed the previous Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) governments in the state for the mess in Uttar Pradesh and said that they had collectively presided over scams to the tune of Rs 12 lakh crore. But the Rajya Sabha sent to a select committee.

BJP president Amit Shah made it clear that becoming a Rajya Sabha MP did not mean giving up his organisational responsibilities as he was working wholeheartedly to strengthen the party at all levels. The BJP's strength is 56 while the ruling block enjoys the support of 88 members, counting 10 JD (U) MPs. Those absent included Union ministers Vijay Goel, Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal, MJ Akbar and Ramdas Athawale.

He said the party will speak with those members who were absent at Tuesday's meeting.

The BJP chief will also take stock of implementation of schemes related to poor. "He said it should not have happened and must not be repeated", parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar said.

Shah reminded the Other Backward Classes (OBC) that the "Modi government did a great job by according Constitutional status to the OBC Commission". Shah will also be presented with a report card highlighting the Khattar government's achievements during its over 1,000-day rule, Barala said.
