Dragon Quest XI Confirmed For The West, To Release Next Year

News of Dragon Quest XI being localized was already expected by numerous franchise's western fans, but announcing it this soon after the Japanese launch may come as a surprise to many.

With Dragon Quest XI now available in Japan, Square-Enix officially announced that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will launch in the West sometime in 2018.

More details about the Western version will be revealed in Autumn 2017.

"There's quite a lot of text, so it's an exorbitant amount of work", Horii said.

Speaking in a special video message to celebrate the announcement, Dragon Quest series creator, Yuji Horii, also introduces an overview of the game and offers an update on the games localisation process. Dragon Quest XI will continue in the tradition of using beloved character artist Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. The video also doesn't say if the worldwide release will be on multiple platforms or not.

It's good news for Dragon Quest fans outside of Japan; the last Dragon Quest game to get a Western release was Dragon Quest IX in 2009.

In addition to being localized, Dragon Quest XI will be changing its subtitle.

Dragon Quest XI, like other games in the series, focuses on a chosen hero who must save the world.
